I know this cancer is going to be a battle, but with the support of family, friends and the church, I know I am in really good shape to win. I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer on August 31, 2012. I had my surgery on September 4, 2012 to remove the cancer and part of my colon.I work part-time for the Forest Hills School District in the High School Cafeteria for the last 7 years and prior to that I was a stay at home mom. I really enjoy working for the Forest Hills School District, because both of my children are in this district, so we have most of the same days off. Finding out I had cancer was very difficult for me especially since my mother passed away from it the year my daughter was born. I am currently taking chemotherapy in the “pill form”. I take this for a week, then I am off of it for a week. I will continue this process for 6 months. I have good days and bad days and not always necessarily the days I take the medication, with the bad seeming to out number the good.
My son Ben attends Anderson High School and is a junior this year. Ben is an avid golfer, who was “Golfer of the Year for the ECC for 2012” and has aspirations of playing collegiality. My daughter Nicole is currently in the 6 th grade at Summit Elementary. Nicole loves to swim and just being a 12 year old kid. Both of my children are good students and are kind and compassionate towards others.
My husband Cory is a Sergeant with the Cincinnati Police Department and has been an officer for 22 years. On August 31, 2012, Cory was watching Ben at a golf match when I called letting him know I had cancer. I know what effect it had and on me and could only imagine what he felt at the time. After my surgery and coming home from the hospital, Cory was there for me and then it seemed like to soon he was back to work.
